When I volunteered to photograph for SURJ Bay Area (Showing Up for Racial Justice) in July 2016, I had no idea about how much work lay ahead. In September of that year, for the first time, I attended a protest as a photographer. The event? I was capturing images from the Stop Urban Shield Protest in Pleasanton. It was the first gallery in the Racial Justice section of my website. Fast forward one year and Urban Shield is still happening and the community is still protesting, this time at a rally in OAKLAND (pictured below). The people have woken and it is inevitable that work will continue against Urban Shield and around many other racial justice and social justice issues. This was my 21st protest/rally event photography in 12 months. You can see all of the other work here at this link.
