On Sept. 9, 2016 Among other groups SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice) and some of its members showed up in Pleasanton, Calif. to support the efforts of Stop Urban Shield by peacefully protesting and marching against militarization of the police force. Some activists had chained themselves across many of the entrances to the fairgrounds where the convention was taking place causing Urban Shield participants to re-route in order to gain entry.
